Energy Assistance Program (HEAP)
Low Income
Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP)
HEAP/LIHEAP are federally funded programs that provide assistance to eligible customers to pay their home heating bills. During the program year, our representatives can help you obtain an application and tell you about current eligibility requirements.
In New York (HEAP): The 2008-2009 HEAP program closed for the season on May 15, 2009.
In Pennsylvania (LIHEAP) – The 2008-2009 LIHEAP program closed for the season on April 3, 2009.
HEAP
In New York, HEAP grants are administered by the Department of Social Services and the Department of Senior Services.
The 2008-2009 HEAP season was open from November 3, 2008, to May 15, 2009. The program helps customers pay their heating bills through a one-time Regular grant, even if they have paid all of their utility bills. These grants are intended to help individuals meeting certain income guidelines with their home heating costs, and are available regardless of whether you rent or own your home.
HEAP also provides an Emergency crisis grant to HEAP-eligible customers who have had their utility service disconnected or are facing disconnection because of unpaid bills. You must have a final termination notice and meet the previously stated guidelines, and lack sufficient resources to have service turned back on or to stop the shut off.
LIHEAP
In Pennsylvania, LIHEAP funds are administered by the Pennsylvania Department of Public Welfare.
The 2008-2009 LIHEAP season was open from November 3, 2008, to April 3, 2009. The program helps low income residents pay their heating bills through Cash grants and Crisis grants. You do not need to have an unpaid utility bill to receive a cash home heating assistance grant, nor do you need to be receiving public assistance. These grants are intended to help individuals meeting certain income guidelines with their home heating costs, and are available regardless of whether you rent or own your home.
LIHEAP also provides a Crisis grant to eligible customers who have had their utility service shut off or have received a shut off notice. To qualify you must meet the income requirements, and lack sufficient resources to have service turned back on or to stop the shut off. If you have a heating emergency, call your local County Assistance Office.
Neighbor
For Neighbor Heat Fund
Because of the generosity of good neighbors like you and National Fuel Gas Company, the Neighbor For Neighbor Heat Fund has helped to heat the homes of thousands of needy families across Western New York and Northwestern Pennsylvania. Since 1983 the fund has collectively contributed nearly $6 million for home heating grants for individuals and families who need help.
The fund provides grants that help people to:
- prevent
disconnection of their utility service.
- pay
current or past due energy bills.
- purchase
home heating fuel of any kind.
